5 reasons you should move to Hackney

Published on

Hackney is not without its sceptics and there's no denying that it's home to a few places which are a little rough and (not quite) ready... However, Hackney enthusiasts (of which there are masses - trust me, I'm one of them) can guarantee that you'll grow to love the quirky delights that Hackney has to offer. This unique neighbourhood is bursting with so much character even Jim Carrey would struggle to do a good impersonation. There is no doubt about it: Hackney is where it's happening. Here are 5 reasons why Hackney will capture your heart too.

1. The Pubs

Think Netil360, Pub On The Park and People's Park Tavern. You can drink yourself silly at an array of London's most lovable pubs without even venturing out of Hackney. Head to the grassy rooftop of Netil360 on a sunny Sunday afternoon or soak in the lively atmosphere of People's Park Tavern on a Saturday evening. Hackney has a pub for everyone and every occasion.

2. The Parks

Nestled in the heart of Hackney you'll find vibrant London Fields. Sunseekers from across the capital flock to this buzzing hipster park during the warm summer months. A 'hot-spot' in more ways than one, London Fields remains the only public park which allows you to BBQ!

Hackney's outdoor grassy delights certainly don't stop there. The sky is literally the limit with neighbouring Victoria Park just a stone's throw away. This giant dog haven (the haven being giant, the dogs come in all sizes...) is certified to be the best park for dog watching in the whole of the world (based on a highly accurate survey of my three best friends).

3. The Coffee

Ah, coffee, the heavenly juice of hipsters! Hackney is packed with coffee houses galore. One of our favourite picks is Hackney Coffee Company. With plants draped across every nook of the café, this gorgeous coffee shop is fantastic inspo' for how to make your brown house a little greener (see The Benefits of Owning Houseplants).

4. The Vegan Treats

Nowhere can do vegan food in disguise quite like Hackney does. The famous Temple of Seitan serves up fried chicken burgers, wraps and fillets which will have you thinking, 'How the CLUCK is this not real chicken?!'. Check out Sutton and Sons 'fish' & chips which will make you question everything you thought you knew about vegan food. Or if you think these restaurants will make you feel like a (vegan) fish out of water, then try easing yourself into the genre with a meat-free fully-fledged vegan steak sandwich from Victoria Park Market on a Sunday.

5. The Markets

That leads us on to the incredible markets which are scattered around the borough. Hackney is arguably in reach of the most diverse range of markets in the whole of London. Broadway, Mare Street, Victoria Park, Columbia Road and even the famous Borough market are all within walking distance. One thing's for sure, you'll always be spoilt for choice.

Suddenly convinced that you want to move to Hackney? Now you just need to discover the perfect flatmates! Find that special 'one' (or two, or three) on Ideal Flatmate, where you can take a 'matching quiz' to find your most compatible roomies. So if you don't (or do!) want to live with someone who drinks your milk straight out of the carton, all you have to do is ask.
